Working at Heights & Harness Training

Course Overview:

This course is designed for workers who are to complete basic work while under total restraint and recommended means of achieving competence. It is to enable a person to use a safety harness for personal fall prevention when working at height.


Who Should Attend:

Personnel required to wear a safety harness and work at heights.

Do you wear a harness for fall prevention where your anchor points are set up for you and safety plans including rescue are already in place? This is the course for you.


Special Notes:

Unit standard 23229 is the prerequisite for unit standard 15757 Use, install and disestablish temporary proprietary height safety systems when working at height.

Persons qualified with unit 23229 are able to utilise basic fall arrest systems eg. Harnesses, lanyards and inertia reels. Those required to install, disestablish and identify anchor points for fall arrest systems as well as conduct rescues, should look at the greater level of training, unit standard 15757. (note: at this stage we do not run the 15757 unit standard).

2. Safety harnesses and associated systems and equipment;

3. Checking and fitting a safety harness;

Identify parts

4. Using a safety harness where a fall hazard exists at height;

Choose and confirm the safety of anchor points
Attaching lanyard
Minimising risks

5. Recognising the requirements for rescue planning to be activated in the event of a fall;

Outcome:

Learners are enrolled with Skills and assessed by a Skills registered assessor. On successful completion of the course, results are reported by Skills to NZQA and recorded on learner's NZROA (New Zealand Record of Achievement). You will receive a card and certificate as proof of your training and competency. Note, processing of certificates and cards can take up to 3 weeks.

Course Details

Upon completion of your course, you will recieve NZQA Unit Standards in the following:

  • Unit 23229 Use a safety harness for personal fall prevention when working at height.
  • Unit 17600 Explain safe work practices for working at heights.

Duration:

This is a one day course commencing at 8am. It consists of 8 hours training composed of theory and practical.
